Smoking is the hardest thing to quit. It's a physical and emotional
    addiction.

You will always want to smoke. If you have friends that smoke and you are around them it makes it impossible to quit.

You never really quit smoking. You just stop.

Much of my immediate family (including my parents) and their friends smoked when I was growing up. I didn't like it, and anyone who smoked always told me it was a bad idea, so I never started. My mom had a heart attack in 2014 and she decided to just stop smoking. My dad had a bad cold years ago and said he couldn't really smoke because he'd cough too much, and he was also sleeping a lot; he said he slept through much of his withdrawals, and he decided to stop smoking after that. I'm glad they stopped smoking.. These days, I don't know very many people who smoke anymore.

It seems almost weird now to think I remember when smoking was legal basically everywhere, including inside grocery stores & supermarkets & such. People used to be buying grocery store produce that had been exposed to cigarette smoke in the store.

It is pretty nice that so many people have stopped.. except for bums like me who just like the occassional cig. It used to be that you could look around (or later, go outside and look around) to find someone smoking that you could bum a cig off of :). Not anymore.

I'm old enough to even remember people smoking on airplanes. The rear 1/3

kept the smoke from coming forward into the rest of the cabin. Not cool at all, but at that time it was a "normal" thing. Seems very strange to me now.

I smoked for a few years, and quit LONG ago. I have ZERO desire to

That doesn't really make any sense. Quitting and stopping are the same

on the arm for a few weeks to come down from it.

    Mike,

I agree for the most part. That said, some of the things that
people intentionally do to their bodies do ultimately cost us
all. I would think even more so in countries that have
    socialized medicine.

I don't lecture folks on doing the vices (smoking, drinking, etc.).
They know the risks and the consequences, and only they can make the
choice to quit...as hard as it may be.

I'm reminded of an old B.C. comic strip, where one character says
to the other "I've discovered something about the nicotine patches.
If you roll them too tight, they won't light". <G>

A friend of mine told me that a friend of his told him that
eating popcorn will give you popcorn farts. I can see the

Not sure I've ever had popcorn farts... but I never noticed
that cabbage farts were a thing until someone else pointed it
    out.

There was a commercial years ago, I think done by Tractor Supply
    Company.

This family is sitting down for dinner, and their dog is laying
down under the table. The father is asking the blessing on the
meal (it wasn't Archie Bunker's 'Bless the meat, damn the skin,
open your kisser, and cram it in!!'), and soon as he says "Amen!",
the dog bounds away from under the table, like he has spotted his
    hunting quarry.

It turns out that the family is eating all these "fart producing
foods" (beans, cabbage, legumes, etc.), which would cause "a green
    haze afterwards". :P

The dog bounds up the stairs and into the bedrooms. He opens the
dresser drawers and starts digging around. After several drawers,
he finally finds what he is looking for...a gas mask!!

He runs down stairs with it on him (I'd like to know how he put
it on himself), then lays back down under the table. Then, the
announcer comes in, and says "We have what you need". <G>

It's also like the meme, where the dog is standing on the chest
of his owner, and he growls "If you quit snoring, I'll quit
    farting". <G>

Everyone, male and female, man and beast does it...from as little
at 15 times a day, to as much as 20 times an hour (I'd like to know
how much of our tax money was used to determine that).

Two years before my wife died (she has been gone 18 1/2 years now),
she and I were "intimately occupied" on the Futon bed, and our
dachshund was in his bed on the floor next to us. All of a sudden,
this horrid stench permeated our nostrils...the dog had dropped a
silent but deadly SBD methane bomb fart!! I started gagging, and
my wife was laughing uncontrollably, saying "You know he's down
there thinking 'Hee hee hee. Ignore my @$$, will you??!!'".

Any love making went out the window, and I had to get dressed,
and take the little booger out for a walk. My guess was that he
was mad that he wasn't getting our full attention, and was spoiled
(as most pets are). But to many folks, their pets are their kids.

I believe that if you want to smoke when you're traveling, that
you drive yourself. You can NOT smoke on the train, plane, or bus.

While Amtrak does offer smoke break stops (if the train is on
time or early), if you're caught smoking on the train (especially
if you're under age), you're put off the train at the next town,
whether it's your stop or not...and they will likely get local
    law enforcement to remove you.

I remember on one trip years ago that east of El Paso, at Sierra
Blanca, Texas...a 16 year old kid was caught smoking. They stopped
the train, and had law enforcement remove him. His ticket was
confiscated, his reservation was canceled, and he was on his own
    to get to his destination.

Years ago, in a bowling league, the cigarette smoke in there was

I've certainly been in a few smoky bowling allies, and agree that it's

I think in general though, society has turned away from smoking in a big

duno if you're into emulators, or non-bbs gaming in general, but i highly recommend the Super Nintendo game "Super Bowling" :)

i think it's the best one for home consoles, perhaps other than Wii Bowling (i prefer the plain old game controller). i've played it two player with random people and they don't hate me for it hehe

honorable mention for Nestor's Bowling for the Virtual Boy. i wouldn't even play it on a real device but if your emulator can swap the colors for grayscale it's neat :)

However, I do sometimes like playing sports video games (usually baseball), even though I rarely watch actual sports games.

The microwave popcorn popper I have is made by Presto.
Wouldn't want to use a Pressure Cooker, Chinese or otherwise.
I think what I use pops corn quicker than trying the heat that pressure cooker. 3 1/2 minutes in a 1000 Watt microwave oven suits me.

The Presto popper uses a paper insert, but it can be used several times before throwing it away and placing another one in the plastic container.

Bought several packs of the paper inserts years ago and still have a bunch of packs.

My original Presto unit lasted for years, can't recall why I bought the second one I use now.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I will continue using the popper I have.
